With just under 20 years of kitchen remodeling & design experience I wanted to share a few tips to truly make your kitchen makeover a success. Many people assume that unless they do a major renovation the solution is to just replace the cabinets in the same layout as their existing kitchen. What a mistake! Does the car you drive today have the same features as your grandmother’s old car?
Today’s kitchen needs are vastly different than even 10 years ago. You likely have several small electric appliances that need to stored on sit on the counter. Our modern lifestyle demands organization and efficiency, that calls for more drawers to store silverware, cooking tools and pots. The most popular kitchen add on is a pull out trash cabinet.
All those appliances substantially increase the need for electrical outlets. The code requires the 2 nearest the sink to be GFCI outlets for safety. One cool idea is to place an outlet inside a drawer where you can recharge all your battery powered devices. In my opinion however, the latest codes for island plugs to be placed only on the island top, is nonsense, unworkable and counterproductive.
So increasing drawers, pull outs, electrical outlets and counterspace is the recipe to a more successful kitchen remodel. I’m available for a professional consultation. Email me josh@denbrookkitchens.com
